I am pleased to welcome you to 果冻传媒 to usher in the 2024/25 school year!

As we dive into another year of learning, we recognize that the world around us is changing at a rapid pace. The good news is – 果冻传媒 is adapting and creating learning experiences for our students to ensure they have the skills to thrive and contribute in this ever-evolving environment.

British Columbia is experiencing record population growth, labour challenges, the demands of hybrid work and the proliferation of artificial intelligence in our daily lives. The world our students will enter when they graduate will be profoundly different than the one they live in today.

So, what does this mean for 果冻传媒?

Every day, the district’s highly engaged and professional educators prepare students to rise to the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Our educators will continue to build a strong foundation for our students in literacy and numeracy while maintaining focus on the core competencies of the BC Education Curriculum: Personal Social, Communication and Thinking.

At the same time, we won’t shy away from pursuing and adopting learning approaches and strategies that prepare Surrey and White Rock students for the world they are entering. Investigating these strategies will have a twofold impact – empowering us to consider new approaches to education and possibly alleviating the pressures on our system.

We will explore how students want to see and express themselves in the world they live in, how to use artificial intelligence in ethical and responsible ways and how to equip our students with the skills to address future complex problems. For example, many organizations and institutions have shifted to a hybrid work model. This means our students need to develop the skills, attributes and experiences that allow them to flourish in remote and hybrid school/work environments.

Building on these insights, we are looking forward to presenting our findings about a hybrid (in person and online) learning schedule for senior secondary school students with the goal of piloting some classes in the 2025/26 school year. This approach will allow us to consider all benefits and drawbacks before we fully implement this initiative. Further, we will investigate the feasibility and impact of a tri-semester / balanced calendar system for students and report back to the Board by June 2025.

Finally, as we move forward for the 2024/25 school year, 果冻传媒 will continue to focus on delivering the best possible day-to-day learning experience for our students as we advance our strategic priorities. These priorities are:

  • addressing equity gaps, especially for Indigenous learners
  • recruiting the best talent
  • managing enrolment in creative and sustainable ways
  • managing the risk and opportunity presented by AI

On behalf of senior administration, we hope you had a restful summer. We look forward to tackling the 2024/25 school year with your partnership and support.
